SYNBIO3 platform aim at providing academic and private research programs in life sciences with a fast and reliable supply of bioactive molecules and polymers. Beyond its role as an open synthesis platform, SYNBIO3 aim to be a one-stop gateway to the biologist community that will provide a powerful boost to interdisciplinary and translational research. SYNBIO3 is built on the unique expertise at the interface of biology, of chemists belonging to Institute of Biomolecules Max Mousseron (IBMM). Consequently, SYNBIO3 provides not only technical breakthroughs in chemistry of biomolecules but also enables scientific programs in biology to start and develop quickly in providing required starting materials , from proof-of-concept compounds to elaborated structures.
Funded in 2007 as part of the department amino acids and peptides of the IBMM and Labelized IBISA in 2013, SYNBIO3 platform has grown and is now constituted of two core facilities: ‘Peptides and bioactive molecules’ and ‘Polymers’. Both technology facilities are hosted in the IBMM, Faculty of Pharmacy of Montpellier (Bat E, 3d floor and Bat K, 2d floor) under the responsibility of Pr. Gilles Subra (PR UM).
SYNBIO3 constitutes a unique initiative in France in setting up an open chemical synthesis platform which provides dedicated technical facilities and high level scientific support for chemical-biology and biology research & development programs.
Noteworthy, SYNBIO3 is partner of IBISA CHEM-Symbiose Nantes, a sister platform specialized in organic chemistry of small molecules. Proposing complementary expertises, the two IBISA platforms are likely to redirect to each other the projects which fall better in their know-how.
The main characteristic of SYNBIO3 is the fact that biologists, medical doctors, pharmacologists and other chemists can not only find a facility to achieve the synthesis of target molecule or polymer for health purpose, but also they will find broad and deep scientific expertise to assist them to lead their interdisciplinary project and to find original solutions to their problems and to reach their scientific breakthrough.
Moyens et equipements
This platform is equipped with two peptide synthesizers (Microwave assisted synthesizer Liberty Blue, CEM, 2008 and 2016); a radiofrequency tag systems for split/pool libraries (2000); two semi automatic parallel synthesis workstations (2 Quest 210, Argonaut and Bohdan Miniblocks, 2000 and 2009) and a LC/MS Waters Autopurification system (2004). One HPLC preparative GILSON apparatus (2016) allowed us to purify the different compounds. In addition, analytical and workup equipment is associated in the platform: LC/MS (ZQ) Waters Micromass (2008); UHPLC/MS Agilent (2016), a centrifugal evaporator EZ-2+, Genevac (2009), and a freeze-dryer (2005). The platform includes a laboratory devoted to scale up (10 gram scale,) equipped with one HPLC PREP NOVASEP semi-automatic 80-450ml/min, a 10 L rotavapor BUCHI (2008)and an analytical HPLC (2014). The platform is also equipped for the preparation and caracterisation of polymers:
